In this section, we will explore Extended Producer Responsibility, where it is mainly present and its involvement in framework costs.
Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR)
EPR is a mechanism that aims to shift some of the waste management responsibilities from governments and municipalities (which are financed by taxpayers) towards the producers and sellers of the products.
EPR ensures the financing of the system however, consumers might have to pay their product a bit more if a tax for EPR is included in the product’s price.
Producers are considered any player making profits out of selling new/used products, including manufacturers but also importers for instance.
Consumers bring back their product to a separate collection point. End-of-life (EOL) from this point (transport, treatment, recycle, disposal) is paid by the producers.
EPR is mainly present in technical costs
Access to waste
Collection in containers
Transport
Treatment
EPR can also stretch to framework costs
