This report presents the outcomes of Egypt’s first government-backed incubator specifically focused on electronic waste (e-waste) management. Established in 2022 and based at the Electronics Research Institute (ERI), E-Khorda II was launched with support from CEDARE and under the oversight of Egypt’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT). The incubator delivered a comprehensive year-long program (2023–2024) designed to empower innovators through technical, legal, and business training to develop viable e-waste start-ups.
The incubator supported nine teams of innovators with skills and tools to tackle various aspects of e-waste, from collection and dismantling to recycling and refurbishment. Participants came from diverse backgrounds, including students, researchers, and experienced professionals in engineering and business.
E-Khorda II is a critical step toward building a local ecosystem for sustainable e-waste management. The initiative contributes to Egypt’s goals of fostering innovation, promoting environmental sustainability, and creating green jobs.
