What is EEE & WEEE?

In this section of the module, we’ll be exploring EEE & WEEE, with a brief introduction to their definitions and how they related to our world.

What is EEE?

Definition of EEE:

  • Equipment depending on electric current or electromagnetic fields in order to function
  • Equipment for the generation, transfer and measurement of such current and fields

What is WEEE?

Definition of EEE:

  • According to the European Commission, “Waste is any substance or object which the holder disposes of or is required to dispose of”.

Products reach their end-of-life:

  • Because holders do not use the products anymore.
  • Because products are defective or obsolete.

How is WEEE related to EEE?

WEEE & EEE can be considered the same thing but at different phases of their lifecycle. EEE becomes WEEE  (waste) according to the waste definition of the EU.
