Persistent organic pollutants (POPs)

Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) are toxic, synthetic chemicals that last for a long time in the environment and accumulate in living organisms. They can travel long distances through air and water, and become more concentrated in the food chain, posing a threat to human health and ecosystems.

Different types of POPs include:

Brominated flame retardants and Polybrominated biphenyls

  • Fire retardants for electronic equipment.
  • Found in nearly all EEE.
    Finish in air, dust, food, water and soil.
