A key to solution is the integration of the different informal stakeholders into the formal system
Partnerships can be:
- Long-term businesses based on transparency and not exploiting the informal stakeholders by formal companies.
- Long-term agreements between informal stakeholders and producers to achieve their e-waste collection targets.
- Formation of organizations or cooperatives formed by former informal workers who have left informality status.
Formal and Informal Partnerships
- Strengths for formal or informal sector, sometimes meet the weaknesses of the other.
- Integrating informal sector to existing system can bring benefits to both formal and informal stakeholders.
Partnership is also in the interest of local and national authorities
Public authorities
- They can bring all stakeholders in the boundaries of existing legal framework.
- It will help increase the chance for legislation to be a success.
- This could help ending with uncontrolled recycling facilities.
- Reducing environmental and health hazards.
- Integration of informal sector will increase the acceptance for the recycling system.
- This will decrease social risk for authorities.
- It reduces administrative efforts, which means reduces public expenses.
- It will increase tax revenues for authorities.
